The agenda for Friday’s Public Works Meeting has been released, and contains Item #6 Arlington Street Bridge over the CPR yards Rehabilitation Feasibility and Preliminary Design Study. The recommendation from that report is to recommend funding for a new structure that will cost $166 .3 million dollars, and that this expense be forwarded for consideration in the 2025 budget . There would be a six year construction period if funding is provided in 2025 to start the whole process.
In terms of what is recommended, there would be two one way traffic lanes (as there was prior to the closure), with 2.5m shared use pasthways on each side of the bridge that would extend south to Alexander Ave, and north to Stella Ave. Grades on the approaches to the bridge would be reduced to 5% (maybe up to 5.3% at points). There would be no throughpass at Dufferin. Dufferin would be connected to Jarvis on the eastern approach, and would end in a cul-de-sac on the western approach. At the intersection of Logan and Arlington, the current slip lane exiting eastbound Logan onto southbound Arlington would be converted into a Smart Channel, which increases the turn angle from the channel onto Arlington (meant to slow vehicles), A new smart channel would be added for northbound Arlington onto westbound Logan.
From an AT standpoint, the main loss is in the roadworks from the previous plans that would have provided protected bike lanes south to McDermot Ave and north to Selkirk Ave, and a change from a separated sidewalk and protected bike lane to a shared use pathway on each side of the bridge. Here is a cross section for the proposed bridge.
