Scott Gillingham – St. James 2018

No specific statements or platform concerning cycling and active transportation appear on the candidate’s website and social media. Candidate supports providing free public transit access to Canadian Forces members. (Accessed Sept. 2018)

From Vote Winnipeg 2018 (Winnipeg Free Press) accessed 2 Oct 2018:

Q: “What is your position on reopening Portage and Main to pedestrians?” “I do not support the re-opening of Portage and Main to pedestrians.”

Q: “What should Winnipeg’s plan be for the future of public and active transit?” “I was glad to support the City’s 2018 budget that calls for Winnipeg Transit to conduct an operational review and to develop a long term strategic plan in 2018, to include but not be limited to, reduced fares for low-income riders, appropriate financial projections, service goals, performance metrics, and related benchmarking data, as well as a capital investment plan and financing strategy for this plan. I also believe the city must continue to make investments in the active transportation network. I strongly supported filling in the gaps in the active transporttation network throiugh projects like the Yellow Ribbon Greenway Trail extention and the addition of bike lanes on St. Matthews and Empress St.”

From Winnipeg Votes 2018 (CBC) accessed 17 Oct 2018:

Q: “What do you think about the opening of the Portage and Main intersection to pedestrians?”  “The Portage and Main topic does matter to the people of St. James. I am not in favour of seeing Portage and Main open, and if I had to vote on it today I would not be in favour of opening Portage and Main to pedestrians. I did support the plebiscite vote that will enable residents and voters to have a direct say on this issue. From what I’ve heard at the door, people are overwhelmingly opposed to opening Portage and Main to pedestrians.”

The candidate did not complete the 2018 all-candidate environmental survey: A coalition of Winnipeg Environmental Organizations compiled questions for an all-candidate (Mayoral and Councilor) survey with questions relating to the environment, including AT.
